AGRA: Congress general secretary and in charge of western Uttar Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia’s roadshow here on Friday received a lukewarm response from the public and culminated one hour before the schedule.
Though the roadshow was scheduled for two-and-a-half hours, it ended within one-and-a-half hour. However, national media coordinator of National Students’ Union of India, party’s youth wing, Apoorv Sharma claimed that the roadshow ended earlier as permission was granted till 2:30pm and Scindia reached Agra only at 1pm. The roadshow was to have started at noon.
Scindia’s roadshow started from Shahid Smarak and was to culminate at Bijli Ghar after moving through Ghatia Azam Khan, Fullati Bazar and Fawarra Chowk. However, Scindia stepped down from the “rath” (made by Congress workers) midway at Fawarra (fountain) Chowk and sat in his car and left for Hathras, where his next roadshow was scheduled.
Interacting with mediapersons here, Scindia said BJP is power-hungry and is ready to compromise anything for it. He said BJP has created an atmosphere of intolerance and all democratic institutions were at a risk under its rule.
On being asked about the promise to do away with the sedition law in the Congress manifesto, Scindia said it meant that party will save the “freedom of expression”. He said, “Action will be taken if anyone makes statement against the nation or religion.”
In Hathras, the Congress leader told mediapersons, “We have to change the existing atmosphere of ‘jungle raj’ created by CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi in the state and the nation.”
Scindia was leading the roadshow in favour of party’s candidate from Agra, Preeta Harit, Triloki Ram from Hathras and Mahesh Pathak from Mathura, respectively.
