Ludhiana: The Kila Raipur Games, famous as Rural Olympics, has been cancelled after deputy commissioner Pradeep Agarwal refused to give permission to the two-day event, scheduled from April 12.
Col Surinder Singh Grewal, president of ‘Kila Raipur sports society (Patti Sohavia)’, alleged that the erstwhile Grewal Sports Association had made false and frivolous claims in a letter written to the DC and Sadar Police on April 9. Based on the letter, police did not give go-ahead to the event.
He claimed police refused to accept his version on the allegations.
“The police report was not shown to me before it was sent to the DC’s office. When I contacted the DC, he expressed his inability to give permission against the recommendations of police and SDM east,” he said.
Now, the society will hold the games in November and December this year, he added.
