Mumbai: Students of Mumbai University (MU) will have an opportunity to attend exchange programmes in order to increase their global exposure. These initiatives have been planned by the university to help students get an idea of international standards of education, research and innovative projects.

This move has been initiated following the recent national ranking under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) announced for all educational institutions of India. MU secured the 81st rank among the University category. This is the first time the university secured a position in the top 100 universities in the last three years.

Students studying different courses in the MU claimed they do not have a chance to learn international standards for research and analysis. Ranjan Shire, a student, said, “We do not get a chance to understand the level of education and quality of research.

Exchange programmes can help us visit foreign universities, meet students and faculty to understand and enhance our academic skills.” While Siddhi Kewal, a student, said, “We can think of ideas which are different if we have a broader perspective of subjects.”

Authorities of the university claimed they want to start these initiatives so that students can get a better chance to expand their knowledge. Suhas Pednekar, Vice Chancellor of MU, said, “We aim to improve our ranking by focussing on areas like research publication, patent, research funding and data.”

The exchange programmes will be based on tie ups of MU with foreign universities or organisations. A senior officer of MU, said, “There are certain universities that tie up with us for exchange programmes and seminars for particular courses. We are working on getting more foreign universities to with help us with such initiatives so that more students can perform well academically.”
