A man has been arrested for allegedly posing as a buyer on an e-marketing website and then fled with a bike on the pretext of a test drive, the police said on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said the accused has been identified as 28-year-old Arjun, a resident of Sangam Vihar.

Complainant Sahil Bedi from Moti Nagar allegedly told the police that he had offered his motorcycle for sale on an e-marketing website and one Arjun contacted him expressing his willingness to purchase it.

“Thereafter, they scheduled to meet near Punjabi Bagh Metro Station to inspect the vehicle where the accused on the pretext of taking a test drive, escaped with the motorcycle,” Ms. Bhardwaj said.

During investigation, it was revealed that the mobile number being used by the accused has been obtained on a fictitious address of Sangam Vihar after which his sketches were made and distributed.

He was arrested on Wednesday, the police said. During interrogation, Arjun said he sold the bike to thak-thak gang operating in his area, the police said, adding that the members of this gang have been arrested by Ambedkar Nagar police.

The bike has been recovered, they added.
