Jaipur: ‘Keep a check on noise pollution’

JAIPUR: Coming down heavily on noise pollution caused by the music systems used by restaurants and hotels in the city, a division bench of Rajasthan High Court on Thursday asked commissioner of police, Jaipur to exercise strict vigil in the entire city of Jaipur to ensure sound of music systems does not exceed the permissible limit. The court has given May 13 as the date to the commissioner and asked him to file an affidavit in this regard.


A petition was filed by one Arun Bagadia who brought to the notice of the court that some of the business establishments were violating various conditions, restrictions and limits relating to noise and sound pollution in the night time as well.


The bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq and Justice Goverdhan Bardhar had earlier sought a detailed report from Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board regarding the actual noise pollution level in Jaipur city. The pollution control board informed the court that the city has been divided in 3 parts namely silent zone, residential zone and commercial zone. “The report of the experts indicated that they found violation of sound limit fixed in different areas,” the court observed.


SS Hora who appeared on behalf of his clients who have the business establishments submitted that the petitioner has targeted only few establishments, however there are total 170 establishments in the radius of 2 km.
