Mumbai: Noted builder Yusuf Lakhdawala held in land grab case

MUMBAI: Noted builder Yusuf Lakhdawala was arrested by Mumbai police in connection with a land grabbing case worth Rs 50 crore.
Lakhdawala who made headlines in 2010 after yesteryear actress Sadhana lodged a complaint against him of threatening her over property issue with Santa Cruz police . Later he was acquitted in the case.
Interestingly Lakdawala was arrested on the look out notice (LOC) notice issued by Economic offences Wing (EOW) at Ahmedabad airport while Lakdawala was flying out to London for his treatment.
In February, complainant Jitendra Badgujar lodged a complaint with EOW alleging that Lakdawala and Mohan Nayar had allegedly forged documents of a huge property in Khandala and tried to grab land worth Rs 50 crore.
As the crime occurred at the office of sub-registrar office in Old Customs House at Ballard Estate in south Mumbai, the first-information report was lodged by the MRA Marg police on April 4 and later transferred to the EOW for further investigation.
According to the police, Lakdawala and Nair along with some associates, had conspired to usurp 4.38 acres of land in Khandala, approximately worth Rs 50 crore, by forging signatures on documents. “The accused had obtained an ‘affidavit-cum-deed of confirmation’ for the land said Parag Manere deputy commissioner of police.(EOW).
Police said some of the documents were dated back to 1949 and was found to be fake.
The accused have used the registration number of the original document of a original plot which is recorded with the Mumbai registrar’s office in Mumbai.. The police have booked the accused under IPC sections Cheating, forgery and Section 82 of IRA (making false statements, delivering false copies) act.
