Youth held for stealing gold from aunt’s house

Mangaluru: Police have arrested a youngster who stole valuables worth Rs 1.8 lakh from his aunt’s house in order to finance his lavish lifestyle in Moodbidri. Police have recovered all the valuables stolen by the accused.
Police arrested the accused within 24 hours of the burglary being reported in Moodbidri police station. Police said Anand, a resident of Maroor, had filed a complaint on April 8 that valuables kept in the house locker were stolen. Based on his complaint, police started an investigation and learnt that the accused was the complainants wife’s nephew, Sooraj, 20.
Sooraj used to frequent Anand’s house and was aware about the valuables kept there. On a visit, he stole the valuables, and pledged it in a cooperative bank for money. He kept some of the gold with him. He used the money to finance his lavish lifestyle. He was later arrested, and while being interrogated, he confessed about committing the crime, according to police.
