BENGALURU: S Vinay, personal secretary of former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa, has sought police protection, fearing possible attacks from NR Santosh, personal secretary of former CM and BJP state chief BS Yeddyurappa, and his associates.

Police had arrested Santosh and 10 others on charges of attacking Vinay when he resisted their kidnap attempt in May 2017. Vinay met officials at Amrutahalli police station near Yelahanka on Friday and handed a one-page request letter.

“Since I am in the possession of CDs, pen drives and documents that could tarnish the image of Yeddyurappa, accused Santosh and others made a futile attempt to kidnap me on the night of May 11, 2017. The confession statements of the accused confirmed they wanted to take away that material from me. Now, as directed by the investigating agency, I’m willing to hand over the CDs, pen drives and other materials either to police or court. Learning about my intentions, Santosh and other accused may attack me or my family and take away the same. I request police to provide security to me and my family,” Vinay wrote.

On May 11, 2017, a few man tried to abduct Vinay near Iskcon Temple in Mahalakshmi Layout. Following a complaint filed by Vinay, police had arrested 11 men, including Santosh and Rajendra Urs, general secretary of BJP’s Yuva Morcha city unit. During investigation, all the accused had named Santosh as the mastermind of the attempted abduction. A chargesheet was filed against Santosh and others on charges of kidnap attempt and assault.
