Ranchi/Hazaribag: Police on Friday conducted flag marches in Ranchi and Hazaribag as part of their initiative to maintain law and order during Ram Navami on Saturday.
“We held flag marches at Kanke, Pithoria, Itki and Bero in Ranchi and Main Road, Shubash Marg and Bada Bazar in Hazaribag,” a police official said.
The Ranchi district officials set up control rooms at Albert Ekka Chowk, Doranda, Bariatu and Ratu. Twelve magistrates will monitor the situation from these control rooms around the clock. In Ranchi, the Ram Navami procession will pass through Main Road, Albert Ekka Chowk, Niwaranpur, Ekra Masjid, Karbala Chowk and Doranda. Four watch towers have been erected along the main procession route. CCTV cameras and drones will keep an eye on the processions in Ranchi and Hazaribag.
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Ranchi from 8am to midnight on Saturday. Vehicles will have to be parked only at the three designated parking lots — Naga Baba Khatal, Zila School and Sainik Market.
Ranchi city SP Sujata Veenapani said, “Around 1,000 police personnel have been brought in from other districts. We will also deploy CRPF and RAF personnel. JAP will assist them in maintaining a strict vigil throughout the festivities.”
Deputy development commissioner (Hazaribag) Vijaya Jadhav held a meeting with representatives of akhara committees to discuss guidelines for Ram Navami celebrations. District officials have asked Ram Navami procession organisers not to play any provocative song.
