* China's Sinopec has delivered the first batch of low-sulphur light marine fuel from its Shanghai refinery, the company said on its website on Friday

* The batch totalled 6,800 tonnes and follows a delivery of low-sulphur heavy marine fuel produced by the firm in January

* The Shanghai refinery is the first in China to produce low-sulphur fuel oil to meet new IMO rules, according to Sinopec

* The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will ban ships from using fuel oil with a sulphur content above 0.5 percent, compared with 3.5 percent now, unless they are equipped with exhaust "scrubbers" to clean up sulphur emissions, starting 2020
