Rajkot: A college principal and an exam supervisor in Supashigam on the outskirts of Junagadh were arrested in a paper leak scam on Thursday night.
Police said the accused, identified as Praful Bandhia, principal of Arjun Science College and professor Tarang Ahir, supervisor, had allegedly leaked question paper of fourth semester of BSc chemistry prepared by Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta Univesity in Junagadh.
On April 4 when the paper was leaked on WhatsApp, Dilsukh Sukhadia, exam supervisor of Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta Univesity lodged a police complaint, following which police carried out investigation and arrested two students — Jasmeet Mathukia of Arjun Science College and Dhawal Tank of Nobel Science College in Junagadh.
“The paper was leaked on WhatsApp and we could trace the original message to Mathukia and Tank’s numbers and arrested them. During interrogation, the duo revealed names of Bandhia and Ahir as the main accused who had leaked the paper,” said Sagar Bagmar, assistant superintendent of police, Junagadh.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Bandhia used to give guarantee to aspiring students that if they took admission into Arjun Science College, the college authorities would ensure that they would pass the examination.
“An hour before the exam, Bandhia would tell the students to keep their cellphones with them and send the paper on WhatsApp. Our investigation has also revealed that Bandhia and Ahir had leaked the papers of two exams before they leaked the chemistry paper,” said Bagmar.
