Sydney council ranger knocked unconscious after 'parking dispute'

A council ranger has been knocked unconscious and suffered serious facial injuries after what police believe was a dispute over parking in Sydney.

Police said the Liverpool City Council ranger was walking with another ranger along Norfolk Serviceway in Liverpool about 12.30pm on Tuesday when he was confronted by two people who got out of a white Subaru WRX Impreza.

It's alleged one of the men punched the 35-year-old council ranger in the face, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

Witnesses intervened before the pair drove off and emergency services were alerted, police said.

The injured council ranger was taken to Liverpool Hospital with serious facial injuries and is expected to undergo surgery on Friday. The second ranger was not injured.

A NSW Police spokesman said a dispute over parking regulations was believed to have occurred before the attack, although no further details about what happened were immediately available.

Police have released images from witnesses of a man they would like to speak to over the attack. They described him as being of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, with short black hair, and was wearing a black "Nike" long-sleeved top.

Police said the vehicle that the men were travelling in was displaying fraudulent number plates.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
