FALL RIVER — Police took into custody a person who apparently attempted to jump off the Braga Bridge on Friday afternoon.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police radio reports indicated someone was in the bridge's westbound lane and trying to jump off the side, about halfway across the bridge. Fall River, Somerset and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene with a Fall River Fire Department rescue vehicle.

At least two civilian vehicles were seen parked in the breakdown lane of the bridge. Radio reports indicated passersby intervened during the attempted jump. The person was taken into custody shortly after police arrived.

The incident backed up traffic along Interstate 195 to Government Center.
