General Elections 2019

Voting continued beyond 8 p.m. at many places

People in Anantapur district showed patience by standing in long-winding queues from early in the morning till late in the night to exercise their franchise. At 6 p.m., while there were many voters yet to cast their vote the voting percentage stood at 71.6. The final voting percentage was likely to be announced after midnight.

The voting percentage in the 2009 general elections was 72 in the district and 80.2 in the 2014 elections when the State was divided. District Election Officer G. Veerapandian expects the percentage to be higher than 2014 elections as large-scale voter awareness programme through SVEEP was launched effectively.

In the seven Assembly segments of the Anantapur Parliamentary Constituency, the voting was 68.92% and in the seven segments of the Hindupur Parliamentary Constituency it was 74.34%. Despite EVMs not functioning for 30 minutes to three hours at many places, Rayadurg recorded 71%, Uravakonda 67.20%, Guntakal 67%, Tadipatri 68%, Singanamala (SC) 70%, Anantapur Urban 64% and Kalyandurg 75.21%.
