Sydney train services halted after woman spotted on tracks at Central station

Trains in the CBD were brought to a standstill after a woman was spotted on the tracks before climbing up a signal gantry at Central station on Friday night.

A photo of the person perched high above the tracks was snapped by a user on Reddit, as frustration and confusion reigned all across social media with no trains moving for nearly half an hour.

The power supply was reportedly turned off at the station, according to one Sydney Trains social media account, that said emergency crews were on site and working to restore power, while issuing apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The woman was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment.

Flow-on delays continue to services, which resumed at 6pm.

Multiple services on Sydney's T1, T2, T3 and T8 lines are either being delayed, cancelled or skipping stops to make up for lost time.

Sydney Trains are urging people to listen to announcements, check indicator screens and allow for extra travel time.

More to come.
