Cape Town – A superhero, a dog finding her way home, and a miraculous healing – this is just a small taste of what's to see in cinemas this weekend.
David Harbour is a long way from Hawkins in the reboot of Hellboy. This time around, Hellboy and his closest allies battle an undead sorceress who has the intention of destroying the world.
Also showing: A tearjerker family drama about man's best friend, Chrissy Metz in an inspirational drama, and an animation that only the really young will enjoy.
Movie: Hellboy
Our rating: 1/5
Short review: An incompetent, ugly and mean-spirited mess, the Hellboy reboot has none of the personality, visual invention or pure joy of Guillermo del Toro’s underrated Hellboy movies from the early 2000s.

Movie: Breakthrough
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Breakthrough is not an Oscar-winning film. It's a cheesy, inspiring tearjerker that you don't need to go to the cinema to see but will still enjoy.
Movie: A Dog's Way Home
Our rating: The movie - based on the book of the same name by W. Bruce Cameron, who also brought us A Dog's Purpose - tugs at the heartstrings and has some pretty darn sad scenes.
Short review: 3/5
Movie: Racetime
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: South Africa is once again blessed with one of those awful straight-to-DVD foreign films dubbed in English that may just lower your IQ while watching it.
After is also showing in South African cinemas but there was no screening for the media.
