Proud residents participated on Utkala Dibasa

Utkala Dibasa or Odisha Day saw huge celebrations across the state and among Odia people living outside Odisha. The celebrations doubled as the state observed 83 years of its formation. It was the first state to be formed in India on the basis of language.

On the occasion, the government offices in the state capital and in other districts were decorated with colourful lights. The State Level Utkala Dibasa was organised by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department of the state government at Jayadev Bhavan, which was attended by Governor professor Ganeshi Lal. Cultural activities were also organised. Many private cultural organisations also organised various events at different places to celebrate 84 thUtkala Dibasa. Different political parties also had observed the day in their offices.


While Utkal Sammilani organised its Odisha Day event in Mancheswar, Kalinga Sanskruti O Aitihya Mancha observed the day at Buddha temple in Unit-III. Ekamra Janajagarana Manch celebrated the day on its campus in Old Town while Bhasha Surakhya Sammilani organised an event in Sailashree Vihar area. The Accountant General (AG) office also held a function on their campus.


While cultural functions like Odissi dance, music, folk arts and theatres were held at several places, some eminent personalities were felicitated on the occasion. Ame Yuva Utkala Sangathan members held a special programme for youngsters in Jayadev Vihar area and they had invited Padma Shri tea seller D Prakash Rao who felicitated youngsters on this occasion. “This is a great moment for all of us. This day reminds us about our past and how our forefathers had fought hard to unite us and build this state. It should be our dream to carry it forward and make our state one of the best in every field,” said D Prakash.


Not to forget, several women organisations also held some traditional events to promote the culture and tradition of Odisha. One organisation had organised a competition to choose the best Odiani or Best Odia Woman.
