Rajkot: The toll of farmers’ suicides is rising alarmingly across Saurashtra. In yet another case, a farmer ended life by consuming poison at his residence in Lakhtar village of Jodia taluka in Jamnagar district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mansukh Dalsania (50).
“Dalsania had been suffering from depression ever since his crop failed due to poor monsoon. He had also incurred heavy debts from his relatives which he could not pay. This compounded his miseries and drove him to take the drastic step,” said an official from Jodia police station.
So far 28 farmers have committed suicide across Saurashtra since September last year. Eight suicides were reported from Amreli district, four each from Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Surendranagar districts, three from Rajkot district, two each from Jamnagar and Porbandar and one from Bhavnagar district.
