CHENNAI: A petition has been filed with online portal change.org opposing the name change of the Chennai Central railway station to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Central railway station. The petition will be sent to the Railway Board chairman.

The petition, started by Edward Jeni, states that the name change would create a lot of confusion among the passengers, especially those from other states. Also the station would lose its identity, it says.

" The process of changing names will keep continuing in the future based on the political parties at reign. Each and every political party will change the name based on its leader’s name and also sometimes this will create a havoc among religious issues too. If this change is allowed, then in future each and every small station or big junction will be renamed based on their political or religious or caste leader’s name which will affect harmony in Tamil Nadu," states the petition.
