3 boys snatch woman cop’s handbag, 1 held

CHENNAI : A group of three boys snatched a handbag from a woman constable outside M A Chidambaram cricket stadium in Chepauk on Tuesday night. Another police constable who witnessed the incident, chased and caught hold of one of them and recovered the bag.
Police said, at around 12am, Vijayashanthi (30), an Armed Reserve constable, came out of the cricket stadium where she was on duty for the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
She got on her bike when a group of three teenagers who stood outside the stadium snatched her handbag and tried to flee. Vijayasanthi who chased them lost balance and fell on the road. While she cried out for help, another policeman chased and caught hold of one of them, while two others escaped into the crowd. The minor who was holding the bag was caught and the bag was recovered. Vijayashanthi suffered injuries in her hand. Since she did not lodge an official complaint, the minor was let off with a warning.
