Locals in for party after truck carrying illegal liquor turns turtle

Kanpur: Locals in Unnaos Auras police area on Agra-Lucknow Expressway were in for a surprise party on Friday afternoon when a truck carrying liquor cartons turned turtle near point no: 262 junction due to flat tyre.
In a few minutes, the truck went up in the flames due to spilled liquor.
Locals rushed to the spot to rescue the driver and cleaner but could not find them. Later, it was realised that both had probably escaped as they were trying to smuggle a consignment of illegal liquor. Chaos, meanwhile, prevailed, as people began looting up liquor bottles.
On receiving the information, fire department personnel along with fire tenders rushed to the spot.
The police cordoned off the area and traffic on both the sides of the expressway was stopped for a while. The damaged truck was later removed with the help of a cranes.
Inspector, Auras Kotwali police station, Sanjiv Yadav said, “There was chaos but we controlled the situation soon. A major part of the liquor consignment was reduced to ashes, however, as per the locals some passersby managed to lay hands on a few liquor bottles.”
It is suspceted that the truck was transporting illicit liquor consignment from Haryana. “We are trying to ascertain the owner of the truck as well as the owner of illegal liquor consignment,” Yadav added.
