HYDERABAD: MIM chief and Hyderabad candidate Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday sprang a surprise by claiming that low voter turnout is always advantageous to candidates.
“Low voter turnout will always be an advantage for politicians like me where I will know where my voter base is,” said Owaisi after exercising his franchise. In every assembly constituency, five VVPATs are counted. He said it would be better if more number of VVPATs are taken into consideration.
He said violence in AP elections was unfortunate. “So many violent incidents took place (in AP), I can only wish Jaganmohan Reddy becomes the CM,” he said.
He said that the model code of conduct was not implemented properly. “I am surprised that Prime Minster Narendra Modi did not get a notice for his speech in Wardha (Maharashtra) where he equated terrorism with one religion thereby casting aspersions on another religion,” he pointed out.
He charged his BJP rival Bhagwant Rao of spreading lies. In a tweet, he said, “All lies everything is peaceful and polling is free & fair maybe someone should tell this...... all booths have a cctv camera, & BJP couldn’t find even P (polling) agents to sit (sic).” His reaction was in response to Rao’s plea to police to deploy additional forces.
