KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation sealed 22 flats in Nirmal Lifestyle, Ambivli, on Thursday for not paying open land tax of Rs 10.5 crore. Officials said the payment had been pending for several years.

Despite repeated attempts, the developer was unavailable for comment. Officials said the developer had been one of the prominent defaulters. The flats were to be auctioned last month but the developer made out a cheque of Rs 6.5 crore to the KDMC as part payment. On depositing the cheque, the KDMC found the developer had issued stop-payment instructions to the bank.

“After that our tax officer Vinay Kulkarni informed KDMC chief Govind Bodke, who finally decided to seal the flats,” PRO, KDMC, Prasad Thakur said.

After Bodke’s order, the KDMC team led by ward officer Sudhir Mokal took possession of the flats. “We have also served a notice to the developer under asking to pay money at the earliest,” Mokal said.

After Bodke took charge, action on defaulters has resulted in KDMC revenue increasing by Rs 164 crore in a financial year.
