2 cops among 6 held for supplying narcotics in Patiala jail

PATIALA: The Patiala police on Thursday arrested six persons, including two head constables, for supplying heroin to inmates inside Patiala Central Jail.

The narcotics ring was busted following the arrest of one Vishav Aman Singh of Dharamheri village in the district by Samana police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.


During interrogation he revealed that he had also been supplying heroin to Satnam Singh alias Sandy, one of the inmates at Patiala Central Jail, with the help of head constables Surjeet Singh Mavi and Harjinder Singh.


Further investigations bought to light the involvement of convicts Dharminder Singh and Bimal Kumar, who are at present lodged in the jail.


Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mandeep Sidhu said all six accused had been booked at Sadar Samana police station under the NDPS Act and they had been sent in two-days police remand.


The SSP said police were investigating as to how the entire operation was being run by the drug peddlers in connivance with the cops. He added that the involvement of the some jail staffers was also being suspected in the case.
