Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday said the public rage against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be converted into votes for his party in the Lok Sabha elections.
Mr. Nirupam was speaking at the inauguration of the Mumbai North West central election office. The office, located opposite Mina International Hotel in Jogeshwari, will be used for delegation of duties and other election-related tasks.
“Mumbai is disappointed under the BJP government. We will convert this public rage into valuable votes,” he said.
The office was inaugurated by actor Ameesha Patel. “I hope this office expands every year. Mr. Nirupam is a very kind man and I hope his work grows as big as his heart,” Ms. Patel said. When asked who she thought should be the next Prime Minister, however, she said, “May the best man win.”
Congress supporters and party workers from the suburbs attended the event to pledge their allegiance.
“I believe Nirupamji is a very good person and that he will win from North West. I have been associated with the Congress for a long time,” Madhu Kalro, an Andheri resident, said.
Clive Dias, a party worker, said, “Mr. Nirupam lives among the people. He is extremely hard working and aids the poor.”
