Noida: A group of Dalelpur residents crossed the Yamuna and voted in Greater Noida’s Gulawli village on Thursday. The district administration had arranged for a boat and deployed a team, along with police personnel, to facilitate their journey. In all, 21 of the 28 registered voters from the village took part on the poll process.
Dinesh Tyagi, a Dalelpur resident, said the village is in Faridabad, across the Yamuna river. “We had planned to vote but on Wednesday night, my uncle, who stayed in Faridabad, passed away. We thought of skipping the poll process this time. But later, we performed the rituals and came to Noida to vote,” he said.
Tyagi added that 12 people crossed the river. “But only four of us voted, as the other names were missing from the list. It was due to a communication gap between officials and voters. The officials did not visit us earlier,” he said.
Munna Kumar, another resident, said he could not vote, as his name was missing from the list. “The officials should have informed us about the changes,” he said.
Local people said another batch had reached Greater Noida in the morning. According to officials, 21 Dalelpur residents voted this time. The village has 28 registered voters. People have to cross the Yamuna or travel 70 km by road to reach Greater Noida. On Thursday, residents took trucks to reach the Yamuna. Then they took a boat. But there was no transport facility on the other side. So, they arranged for cabs from relatives in Noida and reached the booth.
