Allahabad: Accompanied by Independent MLA from Kunda and party chief Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya, Jansatta Dal Loktantrik’s (JDL) candidate from Kaushambi Shailendra Kumar filed his nomination for the parliamentary elections on Friday.
Kumar has been a three-time MP from Kaushambi in 1998, 2004 and 2009. He was also elected as an MLA from Chail in 1985 and 1989. He served as the state minister for social welfare and forest in 1988. Kumar is the first JDL candidate to file nomination. Till now, the party has announced only two candidates. Apart from Kumar, JDL will field Akshay Pratap Singh from Pratapgarh.
Before filing his nomination papers at the district collectorate, Kumar addressed a public meeting.
Thanking his supporters, the former MP said, “My fight is for the party’s workers and the voters of this constituency. I would make sure that Parliament hears about common man’s problems and how voters of this constituency have been suffering despite the several welfare schemes launched by the government.”
In his speech, Raja Bhaiya said that an ideal public representative is one who is easily accessible and one whom voters trust. “We have floated a new party which is sure to represent the public’s voice in Parliament.” On being asked whether JDL would join forces with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if his party’s candidates win in the polls, Kumar, said, “We have gone to voters with an agenda of development, if any party has the same ideology as ours, then we are with them.”
