Non-profits.
Today the community is rallying around a 14-year old spokane valley boy.last month, middle schooler braden haskell was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
Kxly 4's caroline flynn is live at shotzy's in spokane valley where all proceeds made today are going to braden's family.
Absolutely robyn.
Absolutely 3 absolutely robyn.i was able to speak with braden's mom yesterday and wow is she and the whole family strong.just about one month ago they received a shock diagnosis.
Braden is battling stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasizedto his liver.
That means, it has traveled there.his local oncologist at sacred heart said they've never seen anything like this.they've mobilized a team in seattle where an adult oncologist who's treating him said they've never seen a case like this in a boy so young.
Again this boy is 14.today the army that is behind his family is holding the first of what they are expecting to be many fundraisers, right here at shotzy's in spokane valley.
They are donating 100 percent of proceeds made today between 5am and 6pm to braden's family.
Braden's mom shared with me that both her husband and herself are right now still able to work but mostly from home.... they are expecting that will change as his doctors are in seattle andthat is where his treatment must be.
His mom cherne said they are currently looking at housing options in seattle and that's been overwhelming but they will do whatever they have to to get braden cancer free.he's going in for his fourth round of chemo last week but braden's mom said wednesday, finally a little good news.... braden was given the ok to return to his middle school monday.
I know our community and if people can't make it to the fundraiser, they are going to want to help so i am putting up a link at kxly dot com to the facebook page where you can stay updated on fundraisers to come and learn of other ways to support the family.
