Teen dead, another fighting for life after crash on Mornington Peninsula

A teenager is dead and another is fighting for life after a car carrying five males hit a tree on the Mornington Peninsula in the early hours of Friday morning.

The single car crash took place at the intersection of Marshall and Field roads in Tootgarook about 1.15am.

Two people were trapped inside the Mazda CX3. One young man, a 17-year-old from McCrae, died at the scene, while a 17-year-old male from Capel Sound was flown by helicopter to Royal Melbourne Hospital with critical head injuries.

The driver, a 21-year-old Rye man, and a fourth passenger, a 17-year-old from Capel Sound, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is being investigated and anyone with information or who saw the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Major Collision investigators are also on the scene of a crash in Glenroy where a man, believed to be in his mid 30s, has received life-threatening injuries.

Police are searching for the driver of a white truck who left the scene shortly after being involved in an incident with the injured man's silver Ford Falcon on Pascoe Vale Road about 6.20am.

Police believe the Ford was forced into oncoming traffic which resulted in another collision with a black Nissan Navara ute driving in the opposite direction.

It has been a horror week in a horror year on Victoria's roads. The death toll now stands at 92 compared to 58 at the same time in 2018.

Five people have died this week alone, including a five-year-old Mildura girl.

She died with a 70-year-old woman in a crash near Robinvale in Victoria's north-west on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier that morning, a 44-year-old Undera man died after his car struck a tree in Merrigum, near Shepparton in central Victoria.

Father-of-three Kyhl Weatherall, 28, died when the car he was a passenger in lost control at the intersection of Phillip Island Road and Ventnor Road in Cowes early on Monday morning.

The car struck a tree and Mr Weatherall died at the scene.

The driver wasn't present when emergency services arrived on Monday, however police said that a 34-year-old man was arrested in Burwood over the crash about 6.20am on Wednesday.

Later on Monday night a 51-year old man died in Wallan after his Toyota came off the road at the intersection of Darraweit Road and Pretty Sally Drive about 7.20pm.

On Wednesday, a 56-year-old Marsden man was killed in front of a Whittingham Way property at Koonwarra when he was pinned against a fence by his truck.
