ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad police have claimed to have cracked the murder case of a 42-year-old woman, wife of a railway contractor of Phaphamau area, that occurred on April 4. According to the police, the husband of the woman had killed her, reportedly, after getting fed up by her extravagant nature.

Taking to the media, Allahabad SSP Atul Sharma said that during interrogation, the husband of the woman, Ajay Singh Chandel, confessed to killing his wife Sushma and later registering a complaint claiming that she was shot and killed by two motorcycle-borne killers to mislead the police. The family of the deceased lives at Shantipuram Colony of Phaphamau and she had two kids.

Chandel had earlier claimed that he and his wife with the two kids had gone for shopping at nearby Phaphamau market on April 4, and when they were returning home on foot at around 10pm, two motorcycle-borne persons approached them; as they were approaching their residence, one of them opened fire on her. She was rushed to SRN Hospital by Soraon police where she died while undergoing treatment.

Chandel had registered a named FIR against his own relative Neeraj Jaiswal residing in Shivkuti and two unidentified persons in connection with the murder.

Soraon police picked up the named accused on the basis of the FIR and questioned him for four days but failed to get any clue to the murder. The police, meanwhile, also scrutinised the mobile phone records of both Sushma and Ajay. Suspecting the husband to be lying, the police then picked him up for questioning and after initially trying to mislead the police, he confessed to killing his wife, the SSP said.

Police said that though the kids, aged 8 and 10, witnessed the murder, they remained quiet in fear and shock.

As per police, sister of Neeraj Jaiswal Chandani was married to Ajay Singh Chandel’s nephew Rahul. However, a year back, Chandani died and her parents registered a case of dowry murder against Rahul and others. Police then nabbed Rahul and sent him to jail. In this case Ajay was pursuing the case on behalf of Rahul and he thought that by implicating him in Sushma’s murder, he could hit back.

“As for killing his wife, Ajay claimed that she was extravagant, due to which he had run huge loans on his head. He also claimed that she used to misbehave with their kids and had even threatened to poison them if he failed to get Rahul out of jail. This finally led to Ajay killing Sushma,” the SSP claimed.
