It’s April vacation at the Swansea Free Public Library. Need something to do? Take a look at the events happening during Vacation Week at the Library

On Tuesday, April 16, the library continues April vacation week with Tiny Time, a wonderful interactive story time with Ms. Christine. This is great for children up to age 3 and includes stories, puppets, singing and movement. Tiny Time is great for tiny tots. This program begins at 10:30 a.m. At 2 p.m. children of all ages are invited to Bubble Time outside on the library lawn. This is an outdoor program and will only take place if weather permits. The library will provide the bubbles. At 2:30 p.m. the library presents Cooking Fun For Kids. Ms. Carol will prepare some no-bake recipes using fresh local ingredients. Try a fruit salad or a strawberry smoothie. Space is limited for this program so sign up today. And as always, Tuesday afternoons are for Write Club! Join other creative writers as we work on stories and share ideas. Good for writers ages 8-12.

On Wednesday, April 17, the library will celebrate spring with an Earth Day craft and story hour at 10:30 a.m. Join us at 2 p.m. for a Plant-A-Seed/Peter Rabbit Garden project where we will plant seeds to take home, followed by Book Bingo at 3 p.m.. Book Bingo is great fun and patrons will play for candy.

Thursday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. Ms. Celeste will visit with Loretta, her Moluccan Cockatoo. Meet Loretta, enjoy a craft, and maybe she will even talk! Loretta loves people. Learn about this engaging and entertaining bird. At 1 p.m. we continue the fun with Nifty Nature Know-Hows where we will make a natural bird feeder and a bird and butterfly mobile.

Board Game Bonanza begins at 2 p.m. Play one of the library Board Games or bring your own. Board Game Bonanza is for all ages. From Candyland to Rummikub, from Scrabble to Flux, stop by and enjoy spending time playing your favorite games. From 3 - 4 p.m. we will have drop-In crafts. We will have a variety of craft projects for all ages. April is national frog month and we will finish the day celebrating frogs in books, crafts and learning all about these amazing creatures from 4 - 5 p.m.

Drop-in Legos and Coloring Club for Kids will happen Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between noon-2 p.m.

Saturday, April 20 is Earth Day at the library. Dave Marchetti and his Animal Experiences visit the library with his fun, educational and very hands on program featuring over 20 reptiles and small animals. It’s one of the many Earth Day events happening in Massachusetts. Start the day at 10:30 a.m. for this mesmerizing and magical program.

Museum passes are available during Vacation Week so reserve your pass today! The library has passes to many museums, zoos and attractions in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island areas. Check our website for a complete list. Passes go fast so make sure to reserve on our website for the day you are interested.

 The Coloring Club for adults is a relaxing way to start the week.  Find your inner artist using pens, pencils and many different coloring pages.  We provide the materials or you can bring your own.  Coloring club takes place every Monday from 12-2 p.m.

Each Monday from 2-3 p.m., Simply Done, the Cookbook and Coupon Club meets to discuss food, swap recipes and cut coupons.  This month we will be discussing the cookbooks of Alice Waters.

Every Tuesday is Family History from 12-2 p.m., with the Tuesday Club. Work on your family history using the libraries resources including Ancestry.com.

Every Wednesday is Crafternoons from 12-2 p.m., Each week a different craft will be highlighted. Check the library calendar on the Swansea Free Public Library website.

Every Thursday the Swansea Knitters meet from 12-2 p.m., Knitters of all levels are invited to join this lively bunch of friends.

The first Friday of each month is Quilting 101 with Diane Preble. Interested in learning how to quilt?  Working on a current project?  If you have always wanted to learn how to quilt but haven't had the chance, join this class. Beginners encouraged to attend.

Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.

Union Public Library will be celebrating May Day a day early with a Maypole Dance on Tuesday, April 30 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. There are spots for twenty-four dancers. The Friends of the Westport Library is accepting book, CD and DVD donations for the summer paperback book sale and the huge annual book sale in September. Please, books in good condition only, and no textbooks, law books, medical books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, VHS or cassette tapes. A donation box will be in the library lobby, 408 Old County Road until Aug. 30.

There will be pre-signed donation receipts available to be completed by book donors to report their donations to the IRS. Library hours: Mon. and Thurs. noon to 8:30, Tues., Wed., and Fri. 10 to 5, Sat. 9 to 4. Closed Saturdays in July and August. Call 508-636-1100 for more information or to arrange for large donations.
