‘Inter-linking of rivers not feasible’

BJP’s promise of inter-linking rivers is practically not feasible and Rajinikanth’s statement welcoming it shows his bias, said K.S. Alagiri, TNCC president.

“The concept of inter-linking rivers has been spoken about for long. It is possible to link rivers within a State, but not across the country,” he told reporters here.

“The BJP has not taken any steps towards inter-linking of the rivers during the current regime. They have just made a promise, without elaborating the steps,” he said. Congress president Rahul Gandhi will campaign in four places in Krishnagiri, Salem, Theni and Thiruparankundram on April 12. DMK president M.K. Stalin will campaign along with Mr. Gandhi in Salem, he said. The TNCC chief also claimed that there was a tremendous response from the people for the DMK-Congress secular progressive alliance and the minimum income guarantee scheme (NYAY) was well received.

He also welcomed the Supreme Court unanimous judgement to hear the review petitions on the Rafale fighter aircraft deal on merits on the basis of the documents published in the media, including The Hindu.

The TNCC president hit out at Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s statement that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi could ensure the security of the nation.

“Only Palaniswami’s security will be ensured under Modi. When defence documents cannot be protected, how can Modi ensure security of the nation,” he asked.
