NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and Delhi Police on Tuesday, after receiving inputs from an NGO, busted a prostitution racket being run from a hotel in central Delhi’s Paharganj and rescued four minor girls.
The commission’s chairperson, Swati Maliwal, and member Kiran Negi received a tipoff from an NGO — Mission Rescue Operation — that an agent in central Delhi was allegedly sending minor girls for prostitution. They alerted the police and a rescue team was formed immediately.
A team of DCW counsellors with Delhi Police reached the hotel and entered the rooms. DCW officials claim that four minors were rescued from the rooms while they were with customers. The rescued girls were sent to a shelter home and will be produced before a child welfare committee on Wednesday.
DCP (central) Mandeep Randhawa said that none of the girls levelled any allegations and no FIR has been registered.
While two of the rescued girls are from Nepal, one is from Assam and one from Bihar. On being counselled by DCW, they revealed that they came from poor families and there were no other earning members. They said that they used the money earned in Delhi for their families in their villages.
DCW officials claimed that they got Rs 500 from a customer, half of which was taken by the agent. The agent allegedly arranged customers for them for massage, dance in clubs and prostitution. The girls expressed desire for getting employed gainfully so they can support their families. DCW is requesting CWC to ensure proper rehabilitation for the girls. Maliwal said, “While illegal sex trade in the city remains unchecked, it is alarming that more and more girls are being trafficked for this purpose.”
