NAGAPATTINAM: While industrial development is important, exploitation of natural resources and restriction of prevailing livelihood of the poor people was not acceptable, Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan said on Thursday.

Wily politicians had kept the people in perennial poverty with the motive of overpowering them with money power at the time of elections. The people must not be patient any more to such designs, and must vote for people with good intentions, Mr. Kamal Haasan said, canvassing for his party candidate K.Guruviah in Nagapattinam Lok Sabha constituency.

Referring to what he described as the canard being spread that the MNM was the B-team of the BJP, Mr. Kamal Haasan said it (the charge) was being made to erode the support base of his party. The Lotus will never bloom in Tamil Nadu, he said.

"I was the first actor to condemn the demolition of Babri Masjid. Remember, the MNM will always be the A-team," the MNM leader said.

The Supreme Court's stand on the Rafale deal was a great victory for the people and the media, he said.

Serious problems like salinity of ground water caused by sea water ingress and pollution caused by inadequacies in handling of coal at the harbour, and rising unemployment had been left unaddressed for too long in the constituency, Mr. Kamal Haasan said, seeking to assure that his party candidate will address the people's problems in right earnest.
