Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami Thursday accused DMK chief M K Stalin of using intemperate language against him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders of the AIADMK-led combine to seek votes.
The top AIADMK leader also alleged that DMK men indulged in unruly behaviour and said a leader should seek votes by focusing on his party's achievements during its stint in the government.
Stalin, however, was seeking votes by using intemperate language against the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and leaders of coalition parties wherever he went, Palaniswami alleged.
After citing the objectionable words, Palaniswami said he wondered if anyone could talk in such a fashion.
"Giving respect to the high office one held is our culture though there could be criticisms," he said.
Stalin, however, does not "know our culture and he is undeserving (to be a leader)...there is a limit, he is crossing his limits, if we start giving it back in the same fashion, your ear drum will snap," Palaniswami said at a poll rally here.
Palaniswami alleged though the DMK was in power in both the State and the Centre it did not implement any scheme for the welfare of the people.
Alluding to Stalin, Palaniswami alleged "they paid attention only in the well-being of their family."
Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, however, implemented all the schemes and projects for people's welfare announced by her during 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections, he said.
The Chief Minister, referring to the subsidised Amma two-wheeler scheme for working women, said 3.34 lakh beneficiaries have availed it.
Listing other welfare schemes like gold assistance for brides (eight grams gold and Rs 50,000 cash aid), he said since his government had been successfully continuing implementation of all such electoral promises of "Amma," AIADMK rule has a place in the hearts of the people.
He cited incidents including an alleged assault on a woman in a beauty parlour last year by a DMK functionary who was later suspended by the party and reinstated following an apology.
"The DMK men are continuously indulging in unruly behaviour...the DMK chief, rather than taking action against them, was holding talks, does this behove well for a leader..?" he asked.
Also citing cases like the one involving a former DMK MLA from Perambalur, M Rajkumar, who was sentenced to a 10-year jail term for alleged rape and murder by a court, he wanted to know what action was taken by Stalin against such men.
The BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president and Tuticorin Lok Sabha candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan too hit out at Stalin for criticising Modi and Palaniswami without allegedly following political decency.
