Landmine blast near polling centre in Naxal-affected Maharashtra's Gadchiroli

A landmine blast was triggered near a polling booth in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Police reported a landmine blast near a polling centre in Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district. Voting was underway at this polling booth when the landmine exploded.

This is the second such blast triggered by Maoists in Gadchiroli in two days.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the blast in which an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was triggered near the polling station in Gadchiroli's Etapalli.

In Chhattigarh on Thursday, Naxals detonated an IED in Narayanpur district, which comes under Bastar constituency. No casualty was reported in the blast.

A day before, a similar IED blast left a CRPF personnel seriously injured in Gadchiroli when security personnel were out to secure the area ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

The blast took place in Gatta-Ettapalli area of the district on Wednesday evening where the troops of the 191st battalion were on patrol. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troops were out to secure the area ahead of the polls.

The sub-officer suffered limb injury due to the improvised explosive device blast. He is stated to be in critical condition and is being airlifted for treatment, an official said.

On April 9, two days before the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, a BJP MLA and four security personnel were killed in a Maoist triggered IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.

Bastar is also voting in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

A thick security blanket, comprising around 80,000 state and paramilitary personnel, was thrown across the constituency to ensure peaceful polling.
