‘Was perhaps upset due to his illness’

An elderly man died on Wednesday after he allegedly jumped in front of a moving train at a Delhi metro station, the police said.

The incident took place around noon at Ramesh Nagar metro station of the Blue Line that connects Dwarka in Delhi to Noida, they said.

“A man jumped on the Metro tracks around 11.57 a.m. from platform no. 1. and died,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Mohammed Ali said.

No identification document was found from the spot, Mr. Ali said.

The man said he was going to the gurdwara while leaving the house in the morning. The deceased is survived by his wife and four sons, the officer said.

No note left behind by him was recovered, the police said, adding that they suspect he was upset due to his illnesses.

Delhi Metro officials confirmed the incident and said the train was going towards Vaishali when the man jumped on the tracks, leading to brief delay in services.
