Ludhiana: Tangled wires which can be seen dangling at dangerously low heights, can be found in many residential and commercial areas of the city. Those living or working in areas like Dugri, Gill Road, New Model Town and Habiowal complain that the authorities are not doing anything to improve the situation, which has become a great cause of fear and concern for them.
Pammy, a housewife living in New Model Town said, “We complain about youngsters moving out of the country. They tend to shift to other countries because they believe that the infrastructure here will hardly change for the better. Over the years, nothing has been done to replace the hanging wires or at least make sure that they are not dangling at a low height. Politicians are only indulging in big talks, and when it comes to the authorities, they are not are doing anything either.”
Gurbaksh Singh, a private employee working in Ghumar Mandhi, said, “Most of the wires can be seen dangling in a very dangerous way. They barely have any support. Many of them can be seen hanging just with the help of a rope. It should be understood that the ropes can break at any point of time leading to a huge accident and even casualty. Who will be responsible if someone is hurt. The concerned authorities should come up with a plan to visit the problematic areas on a routine basis to look into the issues being faced by the residents there.” He added that they can start making a list of all the problems they come across and receive the complaints for, and start working towards it.
