Bentley Says No Sports Cars Are On Its Agenda

Not too long ago, talk about a sleek Bentley sports car had car enthusiasts drooling. Unfortunately, the British company has confirmed it has no immediate plans for any type of sports car.

According to Bentley board member in charge of engineering, Werner Tietz, the company is committed to GTs and SUVs and not interested in putting vehicles like the EXP 10 Speed 6 and EXP 12 Speed 6e Roadster into production.

“The concept positioning was not something that fits with our future strategy now. Pure sports cars are not a topic for us now. Since joining, our first move has been to work on the current range, and to set a better cadence for launching products at spaced intervals. Now we are looking at what future possibilities there are,” Tietz said.

Bentley says there is scope to expand both its line-ups of grand tourers and SUVs and this is exactly what the car manufacturer is currently exploring, Autocar reports.

“The first thing we want to be sure of is that we have a GT car in every segment, and it is not certain if we are there now. There is more potential in that segment, I think. Bentley can offer something unique, particularly around delivering cars with a sport edge that can, at the push of a button, transform into a luxury, refined car,” he said.

Reports about a Bentley SUV to slot below the Bentayga have been swirling for a number of years but Tietz said such a vehicle is not on the agenda. Instead, Bentley is only interested in vehicles bigger than its current models and this includes a potential new SUV which could target buyers in China and the U.S.

Interestingly, Tietz did add that the company is thinking about “an electric, city-focused car” but said it is simply “a concept in our minds.”
