Chennai police have rounded up as many as 1315 anti-social elements by executing pending non-bailable warrants and brought peace with over 1550 history-sheeters, since the Lok Sabha election was announced on March 10 to make ensure that the polls are conducted peacefully.

The police and election commission have been working in tandem with each other in order to maintain peace and conducive atmosphere for fair and free election.
According to a senior city police official, those who were arrested by executing the non-bailable warrant would be sent to jail, while the other 1550 history sheeters would be kept under police vigil. “They had signed a peace bond with the police official and promised to behave and stay away from illegal activities,” noted the official.
Police official further noted that the city police would continue to keep vigil on history-sheeters and execute the warrants in the coming days as well.
Even as the campaigning entered the last phase in city, the police had also booked 629 cases of in connection with the violation of election code of conduct.
The city police had been rounding up such elements to ensure peaceful polling in the forthcoming parliamentary election to be held on April 18 in the state. “A total of more than 2,800 such elements are now kept under control,” police said.
