Ranchi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Lohardaga on April 23 ahead of the elections on three of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand. Chatra, Lohardaga and Palamu will go to polls on April 29 and nominations for these seats ended on Tuesday.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday said that the itinerary for Modi’s visit will be finalized in a couple of days. “The PM is coming to Lohardaga on April 23, but an exact schedule is awaited,” a CMO source and aide of chief minister Raghubar Das said.
BJP is fielding its outgoing MPs in all the three seats. In Lohardaga, Union minister of state for tribal affairs Sudarshan Bhagat is looking to secure a third term, while in Palamu and Chatra, VD Ram and Sunil Singh are contesting for second consecutive terms.
State BJP leaders said Lohardaga has been chosen as the venue for Modi’s rally due to various factors. “First of all, Sudarshan is a cabinet minister. Also, unlike the other two seats, there is no any infighting or public resentment against our candidate here. Lohardaga is the best venue for the PM’s election rally. From here, he will campaign for BJP candidates on all the three seats,” said a BJP leader who did not want to be named.
He added that schedule for a few more senior leaders are being worked out simultaneously for a power-packed campaign trail before the April 29 polls. While the PM will address rallies ahead of all four phases of polling in Jharkhand, BJP national president Amit Shah will hold about 10 rallies in the state.
“Before April 29, Amit Shah and Union home minister Rajnath Singh are likely to hold rallies in Chatra and Latehar. The dates are being worked out. On April 20, UP CM Yogi Adityanath is expected to address a rally in Daltonganj while minister of state for defence and former Army chief V K Singh will attend a rally in Hussainabad on April 16,” said a party leader.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said a battery of the party’s senior leaders will campaign in Jharkhand, but a formal announcement will be made after their schedules are notified to them.
