Watch Distracted BMW Driver Rear-End NYC HELP Truck Before Flipping Over

This high-speed crash took place just north of New York City on the Taconic State Parkway and saw what appears to be a newer BMW X6 smash into the back of a truck, which happened to have a camera mounted at that exact spot.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, this crash occurred because of distracted driving, with the person in command of the BMW apparently unaware that he was about to crash directly into a HELP truck.

HELP trucks, by the way, are used by the DOT to clear broken down vehicles and keep all active lanes safe, which makes this incident a little ironic in nature.

The NYSDOT twitter feed had this to say following the crash: “Distracted driving is dangerous. A camera on the back of our HELP truck caught the moment when a seemingly distracted driver rear-ended the vehicle, then flipped over at a lane merge on the Taconic State Parkway recently. #EliminateDistractions”

The tweet was posted on April 9, though the accident took place on March 24, according to the timestamp.

In the end, it’s really hard to tell if the BMW driver even got a chance to hit the brakes and slow down. While the driver has nobody to blame but himself, we just hope he managed to walk away without serious injuries.
