The alertness of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel helped in nabbing a person trying to fly to Raipur with three-inch long knife hidden in a shoe. However, the police allowed him to go after recording the statement. On Wednesday, passenger Maitu Ram Poyam was traveling to Raipur by flight 6E-252. During personal security check at 2.42 pm, screener and assistant sub inspector Insaf Ali grew suspicious when Poyam walked through Door Framed Metal Detector (DFMD).
Ali took him at yellow line again and asked him to pass through DFMD. Then, Ali checked the passenger thoroughly and found a three-inch long knife concealed in his right shoe, according to Aryama Sanyal, director, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar airport.
The passenger during interrogation admitted that he intentionally hid the knife. As he was travelling to Raipur, suspicion grew for his possible link with naxalites. At one point of interrogation, it appeared that he was misleading the CSIF personnel. The passenger said he deals in bore wells.
Later, he was handed over to Aerodrome Road police station. TI Ashok Patidar said he was innocent and therefore after recording his statement was allowed to leave. No case was registered against him. It is first such case of hiding knife in shoe, which occurred at airport in recent history.
