WikiLeaks\' Julian Assange arrested after losing asylum

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange  was arrested Thursday  at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London after the country revoked his asylum.

Ecuadorian President Lenín Moreno  said in a video  the country "has reached its limit on the behavior of Mr. Assange" and listed specific incidents leading up to the decision.

Assange had been granted asylum by Ecuador and was living in its embassy since 2012.

He was avoiding extradition to Sweden for sexual assault allegations, which were eventually dropped.

Now, with the asylum withdrawn, London police were able to detain him for "failing to surrender to the court" from the warrant issued seven years ago.  Assange's lawyer said  he was also arrested on a U.S. extradition request.  Assange has been on the U.S.'s radar since WikiLeaks published thousands of classified documents back in 2010.

The site's also come up in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation; it published emails that were stolen from Democrats by Russian agents during the 2016 election.  Ecuador's president said Great Britain agreed not to extradite Assange anywhere he could face torture or the death penalty.
