Rameswaram-Chennai Express suffered a delay of more than three hours on Wednesday night following leakage of lubricant oil in the engine.
The train (16852), which left Rameswaram at 5 p.m., was nearing Paramakudi when the leakage was noticed. As the oil spread to at least three coaches due to velocity of wind in the running train, the loco pilots stopped it at Paramakudi railway station.
After a spare engine was brought from Rameswaram, the train left for Chennai at 9.30 p.m., sources said.
Leakage of lubricant oil from engine was nothing unusual and a similar incident happened in Madurai region on a couple of occasions, the sources said. They denied reports that there was diesel leakage from the engine and a major mishap was averted.
