Coimbatore: The highways department officials have submitted the design plan of the Avinashi Road Flyover to the design consultant for finalising. The flyover, which connects Uppilipayalam junction and Kalapatti junctiona span of about 9kmis expected to decongest the ever-busy Avinashi Road.
Officials said they had given the design to the consultant last month. “The process of finalising the design by the consultant would take a bit of time as the flyover will have several components, unlike other flyovers. It will not be a uniform structure. So, the process of finalising the design would take at least six months,” said an official in charge of the project.
The design was further complicated as Avinashi Road has several crossings and junctions, the official said. “A typical bridge plan cannot be adopted here. We had to change the plan for every crossing. Also, the road has many junctions, which had to be taken into account.”
After finalising the design, the department will prepare the quantity estimate, the detailed project report and apply for the administrative sanction. “After we get the administrative sanction, we would go for technical sanction,” the official said.
The officials have finalised the alignment and span of the flyover and have submitted it to senior officials. Based on suggestions, they would modify it. “We have been asked to try out various technical feasibilities for effectiveness. The consultant is working on it.”
After finalising the design and getting various sanctions, they would initiate tender process. The project is expected to take two years to complete.
