JAIPUR: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) had issued a notice to the organisers of Rajasthan Royals demanding an immediate payment of Rs 33 lakh for posting hoardings and banners around the city for IPL matches.
JMC said that RCA did not take permission for pasting banners around the city for advertising their tournament.
The notice is sent to vice-president of Rajasthan Royals Rajeev Khanna regarding the non-payment of dues by the revenue department of the JMC. In the notice, it is said that hundreds of hoardings and banners regarding the upcoming matches have been pasted all over the city and SMS Stadium for which prior permission wasn’t taken from the JMC. Hence, they must, within seven days pay the amount due or action will be taken against them.
Naveen Bhardhwaj, deputy commissioner of revenue said, “There are two types of hoardings. One is through vendors where we cannot interfere. Another is directly outside the stadium where tax is applicable. It comes under the taxable property for which they have to pay the revenue or we will take action against them as per the rules.”
As per sources, the notice is sent because the organisers just sent 50 IPL passes to the mayor Vishnu Lahta which he found insufficient. However, he denied that and said actions are taken as per the law and if the payment is not made within seven days, JMC will go by the procedure mentioned in Rajasthan Municipality Act, 2009. As thousands of people come to see the match, maintenance of SMS Stadium is also a task for JMC which they had to clear.
The notice is sent for 25 bigger hoardings on which Rs 1,69,468 is due and 23 smaller hoardings for which Rs 32,22,640 is due.
Payments have to be made for the entire period of IPL when the hoardings were first installed. Next IPL match will be played between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings on Thursday. Around 50,000 people will be come as viewers.
