Boy elopes with minor girl, kin allege ‘love jihad’

JAISALMER: A boy from the Muslim community of Lathi village eloped with a minor girl of Meghwal community of Rattan ke bassi village in Jaisalmer district.

The family members of the 16-year-old girl and villagers went to police station and demanded the arrest of the culprit. Police, taking immediate action, caught the boy and the girl at Jaisalmer railway station.


Police have arrested the boy and on the report of brother of the minor girl, lodged a case under POCSO and SC/ST Act and have started investigation. The girl’s family has alleged the case to be that of ‘love jihad’ and of forceful religious conversion.


SP Kiran Kung said that on Tuesday night, during patrolling, Lathi police station constable Kaluram saw the boy and girl at the railway station and when asked, they said they were siblings and were going to Jaisalmer to attend a marriage. Kaluram found their activities suspicious and informed the station officer Lathi, who informed GRP post at Jaisalmer and when the train reached the station, GRP check post Jaisalmer stopped the boy and the girl and informed Lathi police station.


She said in the meantime, the word spread on Whatsapp that a boy from a Muslim community has run away with a minor girl of Meghwal community. Lathi police informed the girl’s family, who then lodged a case against the boy, Manzoor Khan, for raping, eloping and for abusing the family members of the girl, under SC/ST Act and POCSO Act.
