Election surveillance squads have seized several kilograms of silver articles during vehicle checks in Salem and Namakkal Parliamentary constituencies on Wednesday.
In Namakkal, a flying squad involved in vehicle checks near N.Pudupatti bus stand checked a car and seized 509 silver anklets weighing 52.54 kg from the vehicle. According to officials, the silver anklets were being carried by a silversmith from Salem and he did not possess the required documents to transport the goods.
The value of the seized goods was estimated to be around ₹20.55 lakh and the squad immediately alerted Income Tax officials.
In Salem, the flying squad seized silver anklets from a two-wheeler during vehicle checks near Kondalampatti on Tuesday.

Officials seized 23 kg of silver goods worth ₹ 9.75 lakh from the two-wheeler as its owner did not possess necessary documents. The seized goods were handed over to district treasury. The officials said that the seized goods would be returned once necessary documents were produced.
