CHANDIGARH: Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) has floated fresh tenders to give 28 acres of land near Chandigarh railway station on lease for 99 years.

Earlier, IRSDC had given the same land on lease for a period of 28 years. The move to extend the period of lease was taken after no one showed interest in the land, even after floating tenders a number of times in the last one year.


Under the masterplan of the world class railway station, the IRSDC had proposed to lease out the land for commercial activities, the revenue which was to be utilise for various developmental works of the station.


In February, Union cabinet ministers gave a green light to a housing project proposal of Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited on the commercial site at Chandigarh railway station. The housing project on some 25 lakh square feet of land was proposed by the IRSDC to the union ministry of Indian Railways.


Last year in December, Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited had submitted a fresh plan of housing project before railway board. Chandigarh railway station owns 493.6 acres of land in the city, which covers the station building area, residential and open land in the city.


As per the plan project, IRSDC will take over the land for developing world class station after bagging a final nod from the railway board. In its proposal, the IRSDC wished to make studio apartments, flats and service flats on the railway land near Chandigarh railway station.


As per the records, there is 50 lakh square feet of land available for developmental projects near Chandigarh railway station.
